About Shrikhand Mahadev Yatra
Hi, guys today
I want to share my experience of trekking to shrikhand Mahadev Kailash. I never thought of traveling to this magical place of Bholenath. The 72 feet shiv linga on the top of the mountain. From sea level, the height of shrikhand is 16000 feet. So back in the year(2017) finally I decided to go for this trek. One of my toughest treks of life so far. So trek starts from jaon Village we were 5 friends on that trek.
Shrikhand Mahadev is one of the Kailash Parvat of Shiva. One of the toughest Shiv yatra and a beautiful one. Anyone can attempt this trek. Any age group person it’s all about your fitness level physically as well as mentally.
Day 1- Jaon Village to thachru Campsite.
On the first day, we trek to thachru from Jaon, It’s about 11 km. The toughness of the trek you feel on the first day. We started our trek around 11 AM and need to reach the first basecamp (Thachru). In the month of July, the whole trek is lush green, and rainfall during the trek so need to carry raincoats at the time of this trek. From Jaon to Thachru we need to trek from a thick forest and the trek is steep to the Thachru campsite. We reached the camps around 6 PM. The day was good. We stay in camps so the first day we covered around 12 km from the base.
Day 2- Thachru to Bheem Dawar
Good Morning from Thachru campsite. We had our breakfast and start trekking towards the bheem dawar campsite. From Thachru to campsite the distance 12 km and again the route is steep and challenging. It was raining heavily, cold freezing breeze up in the hills. We saw all the weather in these 2 days. Again we stayed in the camps. Bheemdawar is one of the beautiful campsites in the shrikhand Mahadev trek. You can in between Thachru to bheem dawar but I recommend staying at Bheemdawar campsite because the beauty of this location is amazing.
Day 3- Bheem dawar to Shrikhand Mahadev & Trek back till parvati Bagh.
This is challenging and trek till shrikhand Mahadev Kailash altitude of 5200M. The biggest challenge of this trek is we start our trek early in the morning because we need to come back out bheem dawar campsite because only one campsite in between bheem dawar to Shrikhand Mahadev Kailash that was Parvati bagh. Low oxygen level, High altitude Sickness, and Headache these things are normal at that much altitude. On the way, we all went separated. Some of my friends have good speed to trek in the mountains so they were ahead of us. Me and my friend Bakshi Ji was slow. One of the major things on this trek is time. So you have to trek within time because at night temp goes down up to 0 to -2 degrees and with no light it gets difficult to survive there. There were many people who died during the trek because of low oxygen or some left the trek and get back because of toughness. So we are behind our friends.
It was my first time to shrikhand. So one point at Nainsarowar I took 15-20 minutes of rest & thought of whether i m going forward or backward because of high Altitude Sickness & decided to proceed further to the top. I knew i was late but i just wanted to reach the top. Heavy rainfall, chilling weather around 3-4 degree temp and very high altitude about 16000 feet, low oxygen rate, but that didn’t stop us. Between Nainsarowar to Kailash, there are 2-3 glaciers. We crossed all, around 1.5 km from Kailash one of our friends went back due to low oxygen and We decided to go ahead and after crossing last glacier of 400 meters. We reached the top. Oh man, magical view u see there 72 feet shivling in front of you. I daily used to google and search shrikhand Mahadev now I was in front of it. That moment made me cry . We stayed there for 30-35 mins. There is another world, you can feel the power of shiva. Awesomeness. Then again rain started we were going back down now. So in the evening I and my friend decided to stay at Parvati bagh we cannot reach our campsite and we contact through police walky-talky phones to convey a message to our friends who already reached the Bheemdawar campsite.
Day 4 – Parvati Bagh to Jaon Village.
We started our downhill trek towards the Bheemdawar and the same day back to the jaon village we trek around 22kms downhill on the same day. Reached jaon at night and took a sharing cab till Rampur Bus stand and from Rampur to Chandigarh Bus. Reached Chandigarh in the morning time around 10 AM.
